BREAKING NEWS -
VIRTUAL ON-LINE RUSI MEMBERSHIP PLANNED

The National Council of the Royal United Services Institute of Australia (RUSI) at its Annual Meeting held in Hobart, Tasmania on 11-12 September agreed in principle that the national website should be evolved to provide password protected access to that part of its content which contains lectures and articles.

RUSI recognises, however, that those who do not live in geographical proximity to a RUSI state chapter and are therefore physically unable to attend meetings or lectures at respective venues are unlikely to seek normal RUSI membership which would give access to the website. Consequently RUSI is looking to create a virtual on-line membership category to be known as Associate Membership.

The introduction of RUSI Associate Membership will be aimed primarily at offering the opportunity for people physically unable to attend specific meetings and presentations in person to share in the information presented to members of existing state and territory bodies.

RUSI envisages that Associate Members will be charged a reduced annual fee (compared with existing state chapter members) but they will not be given voting rights nor will they be eligible for election to RUSI state chapter councils.

The RUSI National Executive will have the right to decide on membership eligibility in the event that any person is not seen as able to support RUSI’s aims.

A business case for Associate membership is being put together for approval by the National Council.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a RUSI Associate Member or has any views on this plan is invited to contact rusi.aust@defence.gov.au.
